AT GIANT
BOURNEMOUTH

Welcome to IMT’s outpost at GIANT (Gallery for Innovation and Anti Normal Thinking): when click and collect ’19 meets high street ’21, the architecture of GIANT folds into itself, heats up in an IMT crucible and all designers die happy.

Picking through the shattered high street of dust and metal we bring you monster displays and mutilated mannequins from metabolised department stores. A landscape captured on CCTV: dimensionally diabolical garments to transform bodies – a hand-made tentacle lurking perhaps in wait for the unsuspecting clientele…
Instinct suggests… a site for coming together, assembling to probe the detritus – dancing with them in the moonlight.

Fun facts: 1. department stores were once countercultural spaces: historical sites that enabled middle-class Victorian women to access public spaces previously off limits;

2. they launched ‘Prêt-à-Porter’ (ready-to-wear), which made clothes more affordable and… was a concept proposed by the artist Sonia Delaunay at the Sorbonne (Paris).

Let’s reimagine this as a place for intervention and a de- standardised post-apocalyptic encounter… A zombie high-street post-covid – lets coalesce and feast on remains!

On the 9 October at GIANT, Plastique Fantastique present Termite Noise Club to call forth the termite queen, to ask questions, to hear other noises and to converse with other agents, both visible and invisible. There will be noise and performances by Plastique Fantastique, Frankie Roberts, Benedict Drew.

Plastique Fantastique invite Termite Jobseeker+ to join the club, eat noise, make the nest, hatch the eggs.

We have work to do, we will follow, we will build, it is the way, the best way, the only way.

Plastique Fantastique is a collaboration between David Burrows, Simon O’Sullivan, Alex Marzeta and Vanessa Page. It is a mythopoetic fiction – an investigation of aesthetics, the sacred, popular culture and politics – produced through comics, performances, texts, installations, shrines and assemblages.
